External Partners

Students and faculty will have numerous research and training opportunities with our external partners. For the Problem-Solving Practicum (ISG8021), student teams will develop a proposal for collaborative research to be pursued in conjunction with one of our external research partners, focusing on priority problems identified by the partner.  The student teams will spend a a semester working on the problem in conjunction with the partner and a faculty advisory team and develop a report or publishable manuscript based on their findings. The IGERT will help fund a short term (several weeks to a month) study visit to our partner’s institution or arrange to have the partner visit the University to work with the student team. Each of our research partners has agreed to host one or two student teams for the Problem-Solving Practicum.

In addition, as part of the Cooperative Learning Practicum (ISG8031), students will develop a cooperative learning module, based on their experience in the Problem-Solving Practicum, that can be used by our external partners or in our curriculum

External partners will also provide dissertation research opportunities; this will include assistance with research topics, access to study sites and data, assistance with logistical arrangements and potential funding opportunities.
